Description

Wat Phalat Nature Trail
Distance: 4 km round trip
Accumulated slope: 165 meters

Wat Pha Lat: Located on the way up Doi Suthep, this is an ancient temple in Chiang Mai, over 600 years old. It has a long history and is full of religious and cultural stories. This temple is known as the “temple in the forest” because it is located amidst lush nature.

Wat Phalat was originally called “Phalat Monastery” and was used as a resting place for those traveling to worship Phra That Doi Suthep. This temple was renovated during the reign of King Kuena of the Lanna Kingdom and has become a place of meditation for monks seeking peace and quiet and pure nature.

Trail Description: One of the closest hiking trails or trails to Chiang Mai city. Easy to go and not too long. It takes less than 1 hour to walk up. The trail starts in front of the old Channel 7 TV station (now an abandoned building).

There is a clear sign at the entrance to the trail. Most of the trail is rocky and dirt. Hiking shoes are recommended, especially in the rainy season, as there are slippery dirt sections. The trail passes through dry dipterocarp and bamboo forests, with beautiful tree tunnels, vines, and streams. The closer you get to the temple, the clearer sound of flowing water can be heard.

During the rainy season like this, along the way, there is a chance to encounter many kinds of mushrooms, white wild ginger flowers, yellow swan flowers, and during August-September, it is the blooming season of the blue Plong flowers, which are not found on other routes of Doi Suthep.
